Green Cargo has announced plans to invest in a new network aimed at better reliability and operational efficiency by 2025.

As part of this restructuring, close to 60 of the 270 toll points across approximately 30 locations will be eliminated. Reports by Swedish website järnvägar.nu suggest that this could lead to around 100 of the company’s 400 locomotives becoming redundant.

The upcoming changes are designed to streamline operations and improve the overall robustness of the freight network. With the timetable shift set for 2025, the new system is expected to offer more frequent departures and shorter lead times, thereby minimizing disruptions and enhancing punctuality.

The focus of the revised network will be on key corridors that currently handle substantial freight volumes, including block trains, single wagons, and intermodal transport. By consolidating traffic in these primary corridors, Green Cargo aims to increase both frequency and capacity while reducing vulnerability to disruptions.

Operational adjustments will vary by location, with certain sites experiencing decreased resource needs and others, such as Gävle, Sundsvall, and Helsingborg, anticipating growth. Notably, shunting operations in Ånge will cease, and adjustments will be made in Sävenäs.

This initiative reflects a shift towards a more efficient freight transport model, likened to a public transportation system for goods. By prioritizing fewer shunting operations and improved lead times, Green Cargo seeks to maintain flexibility while providing a competitive logistics solution for its customers.
