Production is expected to start ahead of deliveries scheduled from the first quarter of 2027.

Freightliner will expand its intermodal fleet with 150 new wagons under a fresh leasing deal with Porterbrook. The order will be fulfilled by WH Davis, one of the few remaining independent wagon manufacturers in the UK.

The wagons will be based on 40-foot platforms, a shift from the more common 60-foot format used in British intermodal transport. According to the companies involved, the shorter configuration offers improved efficiency and a reduction in carbon output by approximately 7%.

The bogies for the new fleet will be supplied by Wabtec. The Axiom TF20+ design will be paired with UIC-standard braking equipment.
