The year-on-year growth corresponds to nearly 9 million additional passengers. The figures include both commercial and public service operations.
High-speed and long-distance segment
Between January and June 2025, 17.9 million passengers used Renfe’s AVE and Long-Distance trains (including Avlo, Alvia, Euromed, and Intercity services). This is a 10.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024, which translates to an additional 1.8 million passengers.
On 20 June 2025, the company reached a new daily record in its commercial services, with over 135,600 passengers transported. This represents an increase of 5.58% (more than 7,170 passengers) compared to the previous daily high recorded a little over a month earlier. The growth follows the introduction of new services on corridors connecting Galicia, Castilla y León, and Madrid, as well as Extremadura and Madrid.
According to Renfe, the recent replacement of Alvia trains with AVE and Avlo S106 rolling stock has led to more seats and adjustments in travel times and frequencies on selected routes.
Public service performance
Public services—which include Cercanías (commuter), Media Distancia (medium distance), Narrow Gauge lines, and Avant—accounted for more than 259.5 million passengers in the first half of 2025. This figure represents a 2.8% increase compared to the 252.4 million passengers reported in the same period of 2024.
Within this segment, Cercanías networks recorded over 235.9 million passengers, an increase of 3.91% (more than 8.8 million passengers). Avant services recorded 6.7 million passengers in the same period, reflecting a 2.09% increase, or more than 139,000 additional users compared to H1 2024.
