The money is intended for the purchase of new locomotives and wagons, as well as overhauling the carriages. The European Bank supports the entire vehicle acquisition project through a state-guaranteed loan.
By switching from road to freight rail transport and replacing old inefficient wagons and locomotives, the project will also have a positive impact on the environment through the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
The EBRD also expects that this project will not only have a significant impact on Srbija Kargo's quality of service, competitiveness, and quality of wagons and locomotives but will also significantly support the development of rail freight transport throughout Serbia.
As the EBRD further states on its website, procurement under this project will be carried out through the EBRD's e-procurement portal. Contracts will be implemented by EBRD policies and rules and procurement will be open to participation by companies from any country, unless otherwise stated.
