The service will offer three weekly roundtrips, complementing the existing Kaldenkirchen-Domodossola line.

To expand its European network, CargoBeamer is launching a new service between Kornwestheim, near Stuttgart, Germany, and Domodossola, Italy. From 11 February, the new service will operate three return trips per week. Trains will depart from Kornwestheim on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and return from Domodossola on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The Stuttgart-Domodossola route complements the company's existing Kaldenkirchen-Domodossola route. The Kaldenkirchen-Domodossola route has already facilitated the transport of thousands of semi-trailers across the Alps each month. CargoBeamer enables logistics providers to optimize resource allocation while significantly reducing their carbon footprint by enabling the transport of trailers without tractors or drivers.

The new service is based on an open train concept. This provides space for forwarders and shippers using all types of semi-trailers, including cranable and non-cranable units, containers, swap bodies and refrigerated or tank trailers. This flexibility allows customers to seamlessly integrate rail transport into their existing logistics operations. No additional investment is required. Compared to road transport by diesel truck, each unit transported between Stuttgart and Domodossola reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 80%. CargoBeamer works together with SBB Cargo International to operate the service. The DUSS terminal in Kornwestheim handles operations on the German side, while the CargoBeamer terminal in Domodossola handles the Italian end of the route.

“By integrating the economically vibrant Stuttgart/Kornwestheim region into our network, we are providing an essential link for businesses to leverage the benefits of rail between Germany and Italy. At the same time, this route supports the development of our Domodossola terminal into one of Europe’s most advanced facilities for semi-trailer handling,” said Boris Timm, Chief Operating Officer at CargoBeamer.
