CSX and the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) Program have completed a key component of the 75th Street Corridor Improvement Project with the first train movement over the newly constructed Forest Hill Flyover on 15 October 2025.
The flyover elevates CSX tracks above a major rail junction in Chicago’s Western Avenue Corridor, where previously up to 30 Metra SouthWest Service trains and 35 freight trains from CSX, Norfolk Southern, and the Belt Railway Company crossed paths daily at grade.
Installation of the final girder was completed in July 2025, and the flyover is now operational. The infrastructure upgrade eliminates a long-standing bottleneck in one of the busiest freight corridors in the United States.
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected in the coming weeks to mark the completion of the project, which has been developed through collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders.
