The facility adds 38,000 m² of depot space for loaded and empty containers at the combined transport location.

Deutsche Bahn has opened a new container depot at its Ulm-Dornstadt site in Baden-Württemberg.

DB completed the depot in less than nine months. The additional space is intended to increase storage capacity and improve container provision and receipt for shipping companies, freight forwarders and loading companies using the site.

The depot is operated by DB Intermodal Services, part of DB Cargo. The company provides container storage, repair and preparation services for combined transport customers.

The new depot area is linked to the expansion of the Ulm-Dornstadt transshipment terminal. DB said the terminal’s road-rail handling capacity is planned to more than double by 2028.

Together, the depot and terminal form a combined transport hub connecting the Ulm region with wider freight corridors. The site handles container flows between road and rail for regional shippers and logistics providers.
